Organic Produce Commands Financial Respect

In 2000 and 2001, organics sold in the Boston wholesale market were priced significantly higher than their conventional counterparts:

  • Organic broccoli—30 percent higher

  • Organic carrots—25 percent higher

  • Organic mesclun—10 percent higher

According to a Fresh Trends survey by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Economic Research Service, tomatoes, leafy vegetables, carrots and apples are the best-selling organic produce.
