Retailers looked at everything from biodynamic spices in brushed metal tins to organic T-shirts in organic "teebags" as they checked out the candidates for the best new products at Natural Products Expo East. For the fourth year, retail buyers were the only eligible voters for the New Products Showcase Awards.
The contest was open to all exhibitors in the new product showcase who had a new product, ingredient or label. Preliminary judging was done on Thursday by retailers, brokers and distributors who winnowed 230 entries down to 30—five in each category. On Friday and Saturday, the same group voted for the products they liked best. The winners were announced at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 7.
