Funding for sustainable companies

Investors Circle is seeking applicants for its fall 2006 conference in Boston. Investors Circle connects early-stage private companies that drive the transition to a sustainable economy with angel investors, venture capitalists, family offices and foundations looking for financial and social returns.

Of the 33 companies that presented at the 2005 fall conference, 11 received investments totaling more than $5 million. Food and organics companies that have received investments in the past through Investor's Circle include Niman Ranch, Wholesome Harvest, Guayaki, Small Potatoes Urban Delivery, Pura Vida Coffee and Organic to Go.

The selection committee will look beyond food and organics, however. Other categories include energy and environment; health and wellness; education; media; and community and international development.

Regardless of whether a company is chosen to present at the venture fair, its application (essentially a business plan summary) is circulated to the Investors Circle network. Those who are selected will receive pre-event coaching to maximize the effectiveness of their presentations, and will also have extensive networking time with the financiers.

The application deadline is Aug. 1. Interested individuals must first register at www.investorscircle.net, and then complete the electronic application in the Entrepreneurs section.
