Alkemists Pharmaceuticals Announces New Appointment

Costa Mesa, Calif., July 31, 2006- Alkemists Pharmaceuticals, Inc. ‘the plant authentication experts', today announced the addition of Celine Ventre Ph.D. to the company's analytical chemistry team as a Senior Research Scientist. In this role, Dr. Ventre will develop and validate methods of analysis for natural products.

“With her extensive knowledge of modern analytical techniques, Dr. Ventre will direct Alkemists Pharmaceuticals’ efforts in developing novel chromatographic fingerprint/identification/quantitation techniques for the most accurate identification of species and quantitation of marker compounds possible given the present state of analytical chemistry technology,” stated Dr. Sidney Sudberg, LAc, DC, RH (AHG), Director and CEO of Alkemists Pharmaceuticals, Inc.

Dr. Ventre earned her Master of Science in Organic Chemistry and Ph.D. in Organic Photo-Chemistry from Ohio State University. She has worked with companies such as Eastman Kodak and Varian Inc. and has over 10 years of R & D experience.

Since its formation in 1997, Alkemists Pharmaceuticals, Inc. has become the ‘go-to-lab’ for 3rd party and unbiased natural product analysis. The on-site herbarium contains nearly 5000 reference specimens from over 750 species of botanicals. Having such a large collection of reference specimens allows Alkemists the unique ability to compare test samples against multiple reference specimens, many known adulterants as well as other finished products of similar composition. Alkemists Pharmaceuticals is now positioned well for all dietary supplement companies to comply with the upcoming release of the Good Manufacturing Practices by the FDA. The firm has recently developed methods for the species differentiation of many currently problematic herbs of commerce including Black Cohosh, Licorice, Ginseng and Jujube.
