British Columbia Functional Food & Nutraceutical Network Changes Name

The British Columbia Functional Food & Nutraceutical Network Changes their name to the Western Canadian Functional Food & Natural Health Product Network.

June 1, 2006- The British Columbia Functional Food & Nutraceutical Network which provides educational, networking and economic development opportunities to companies involved in the functional food & natural health product industry in Western Canada will be undertaking a name change to reflect its increased participation through relationship building with the functional food & natural health product sector in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.

The association will deliver its services to members and industry by collaboratively working with other organizations across the four Western Provinces to collectively tackle the growth and development opportunities in the given sector.
For instance, the WCFN will work with Ag West Bio in Saskatchewan, the Manitoba Food Processors Association and the Alberta Natural Health Agricultural Network to avoid duplication of activities and streamline the needs of industry members & stakeholders.

The first project to be launched under the new name is the Canada West Program funded by the Advancing Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (ACAAF) program councils in each of the four Western Provinces. This program will feature a range of regulatory and business development workshops across Western Canada over 2006 and 2007. The WCFN has established an Alberta Chapter of the organization to help deliver its mandate in that province. The program is in partnership with Ag West Bio in Saskatchewan, the Manitoba Food Processors Association in Manitoba and Alberta Agriculture, Food and Rural Development.

The WCFN will continue to provide its full range of services to its host province of British Columbia.
Other than a name change and the addition of an Alberta provincial chapter, there will be no other corporate and/or executive changes to the structure of the Network. For further information contact Dorota Zawistowska, Communications & Marketing Manager at 604 822 6920.
