Call your lawmakers: Get in on this dialing flash mob

We at New Hope Natural Media recently filmed a short public service announcement to show viewers how to call their lawmakers. You can watch the video at theorganicsummit.com.

The organic industry has more than quadrupled in the past decade and is currently a more than $31 billion industry. But that creates a problem: Demand is outpacing supply. And it can’t be met without solid infrastructure. Never before has political support for organic agriculture been so important.

Here are some simple steps retailers and their customers can take to lend their voices to organic issues:

Find your representative. Visit whoismyrepresentative.com to find your lawmaker and contact information.

Plan your statement. Several online resources post the latest action alerts that affect the organic industry. One organization is the Organic Farming Research Foundation, ofrf.org.

Make the call. When leaving a message: Speak clearly; Let them know who you are and why support for organic agriculture matters.

Use these tips to join us at the Organic Summit on Sept. 19 in Baltimore for the first Organic Flash Phone Mob. You’ll be joining hundreds of organic supporters, just like yourself, in the creation of one big organic voice.
