Bill Weiland, president of Presence Marketing, and Jon Stocking, president of Endangered Species Chocolate Co., were chosen from a dozen nominees as the 2004 winners of the Cliff Adler Heart in Business Award.
The award, given every year at Natural Products Expo East, recognizes the qualities embodied by the late Cliff Adler, former vice president of Eden Foods. Winners must have ?a big heart and be the glue in their organizations,? said Phil Margolis of Neshaminy Valley Natural Foods.
Margolis and Bruce Nierenberg of B.I.N. Sales & Marketing evaluate candidates? integrity and sense of humor, inspiration and motivation of colleagues, equitable practices, work ethic and business sense. Mark Cook, president of American Soy Products, lauded Stocking for his company?s support of fair trade and its defense of endangered species and animal rights. ?After researching this guy, I said I wish I was that cool,? Cook said.
Nierenberg said Weiland received the most votes of any nominee during the 12 years the award has been given. ?During his 25-year journey in the industry, [Weiland?s] fostered so much creativity and so much change,? Nierenberg said.
