Omega-3 plant expansion
Ocean Nutrition Canada Ltd has announced a major US expansion in production capacity for its fish oil ingredient. The company has purchased an existing facility in Wisconsin and is upgrading the plant. The expansion is in response to a rapidly growing demand in the US.

DMV invests in whey
DMV International is investing $57 million into its whey processing and food ingredients facilities in Veghel, the Netherlands. The major part of the investment lies in the upgraded processing of whey, resulting in new ingredients. The investment project will deliver the first lots of product during the third quarter of 2006.

Coleman Natural names CEO
George A Chivari was named president and chief executive officer of Coleman Natural Foods Company, the largest natural meat company in the US. He was previously president and chief operating officer of the Colorado-based company. Chivari previously worked as president and CEO of the Parmalat Bakery Group.

Cargill Juice expansion
Cargill?s juice business has added a team of application, flavour and product development specialists to complement its Duckworth Flavours business, which it acquired in 2004. Cargill Juice has also been renamed Cargill Juice Beverage Applications. The company now provides blends or compounds delivered to customers as semi-finished goods.

Kriegel now KMG international
Kriegel Marketing Group has changed its name to KMG International Inc. Former vice president Carol Kriegel has been promoted to president, and former account executive Dale Medved has been named chief operating officer.

New sales VP at Dragon Herbs
Gurusimran Khalsa has been appointed vice president of sales and marketing at Ron Teeguarden?s Dragon Herbs.?Khalsa brings 27 years of business development experience to this California-based company, most recently working at Flora Inc. Dragon Herbs sells 100 tea, super food and Chinese herbal products.


Three new hires at Bioriginal
Bioriginal Europe/Asia has announced three new appointments: Martin Hettema, MSc, has been named area sales manager for Asia; Hanneke Schleicher takes on the role of QESH manager; and Joan de Jong is the new European operations manager. All three will be based in Bioriginal?s office in Den Bommel, the Netherlands.

Desiccant agreement
TricorBraun has entered into an exclusive agreement for the manufacture and distribution of Sasaki Chemical?s integrated desiccant technology. Sasaki is a leading innovator in resin technology in Japan. TricorBraun is based in Missouri.

Reuteri gains Europe patent
BioGaia AB has been granted a European patent for the use of the company?s bacterium Reuteri in pharmaceutical and nutritional products for reducing dehydration in subjects suffering from acute diarrhoea and vomiting. Several published clinical studies show Reuteri?s ability to significantly reduce problems that occur with severe diarrhoea.

CHR Hansen Colombia office
Chr Hansen has inaugurated a new office in Bogota, Colombia. The company decided to discontinue its compacts with local distributors and instead set up a daughter company, complete with storage facilities, laboratories and sales infrastructure. Last year, Chr Hansen experienced 20 per cent growth in business in Brazil and Argentina.

ADM named supplier of year
Archer Daniels Midland has been named North America Supplier of the Year by the Frito Lay company; this is the fourth year in a row ADM has received this honour. ADM is a supplier of oils and fats for Frito Lay.

Coromega facility certified
The Coromega Company?s new production facility has been approved for Good Manufacturing Practices from NSF International. The facility produces the Coromega dietary supplement, which is an emulsified form of omega-3 fatty acids, EPA and DHA, protected and stabilized with vitamins C and E. The Coromega delivery system offers superior bioavailability (twice that of capsule form) in a single-serving package, the California company says.

Lipid tech signs pact with GNC
Lipid Technologies Provider AB in Sweden has signed a license and supply agreement with General Nutrition Corp, giving GNC the exclusive right in the US to LTP?s satiety ingredient Olibra, which is derived from palm and oat oil.
