Diamond V CEO Honored by Iowa Biotechnology Association, Embria Researcher Elected to Board of Directors

John Bloomhall, CEO of feed ingredient supplier Diamond V was recently honored with the Iowa Biotechnology Association's 2009 Entrepreneurial Achievement Award in recognition for the successful growth Diamond V has experienced under his leadership and the launch of its human health subsidiary, Embria Health Sciences. Additionally, Stuart Reeves, Ph.D., Embria's director of research and development, was elected to the Association’s Board of Directors.

Diamond V started in 1943 with one manufacturing plant in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. In 1999, Bloomhall became CEO and immediately focused on two things: 1) Defining company core values to facilitate a positive and productive work environment; and 2) Establishing a strategic business plan and securing the resource allocation necessary to achieve it. Under Bloomhall's direction, Diamond V celebrated the grand opening of its second manufacturing facility in Iowa this past September. The company currently employs more than 180 people worldwide. Bloomhall was also instrumental in the 2005 launch of Embria Health Sciences, which manufactures the immune health ingredient EpiCor for use in nutritional products for the human health market.

"I'm honored to be presented with a business award from such a prestigious organization," remarked Bloomhall. "Diamond V and Embria are deeply committed to supporting Iowa's biotechnology industry through continual facility expansion, job creation and product innovation."

Dr. Reeves has led the research and development efforts of Embria Health Sciences since its inception. He, alongside Embia's president Paul Faganel, has been instrumental in developing and spearheading the supporting research behind Embria's key human nutrition ingredients, including EpiCor. Additionally, as the former primary senior scientist for Diamond V, Dr. Reeves laid the scientific foundation for many of its research-based animal nutrition products.

"I look forward to serving on the Board of Directors for the Iowa Biotechnology Association," Dr. Reeves said. "It is my hope that my research experience on both the animal and human sides of the biotechnology industry will offer the Board a unique perspective."
