Dr. Dash Honored as 2006 Man of the Year by Orissa State (India)

Dr. Dash was honored as the 2006 "Man of the Year" by Orissa State (India) for his many contributions to science and technology, health and education and philanthropy at a special convention on December 24, 2006 in India.

In honor of his contributions to science and technology, Dr. S.K. Dash, president of UAS Laboratories (Eden Prairie, MN) received the “2006 Distinguished Non-Resident Oriya” award at a December convention held in Bhubaneswar, Orissa (India), Dash’s original home province.

Chief minister of Orissa, Naveen Patnaik honored Dash at the event with a plaque and a trophy for his outstanding contributions-particularily in the field of probiotic health and education as well as his many philanthropic activities over the last several decades.

Dash, former director of the US Food & Drug Administration in South Dakota, established UAS Labs in 1979 to focus on probiotics for human and animal health. He was the first to set up a quality control program for probiotics and the first to introduce non-dairy probiotics, acid and bile resistant probiotics, nitrogen packaging and methods to improve stability. Dash is the author of The Consumer’s Guide To Probiotics published by Freedom Press. In India, he has been instrumental in building Kalinga Hospital, the Fakir Mohan University in Orissa, and established a regional blood bank with the help of the Rotary Club there.
