elete Athlete Ashley Battersby Cinches First Place at Nippon Freeskiing Open

OGDEN, UTAH (February 25, 2008)—Freeskier Champion Ashley Battersby, age 20, an athlete sponsored by elete Electrolyte Add-In, has scored her second major slopestyle victory this year at Japan’s Nippon Freeskiing Open.

Ashley, who lives in Park City, UT, has continued her dominance of this winter’s slopestyle circuit by winning the two biggest slopestyle freeskiing events held on this planet and did it in the same month.

On February 2, Ashley placed first at the oldest and largest freeskiing event held in
the U.S.—the U.S. Freeskiing Open at Copper Mountain, CO. On February 23, 2008, she again placed first at the largest freeskiing event held in Japan—the Nippon Freeskiing Open. Both competitions bring the best skiers from around the world to the U.S. and Japan.

“In the U.S. Open, Ashley stomped all her big air jumps and totally slayed the rails,” said Bill Battersby, Ashley’s father and trainer. “The Nippon Open, held at Joetsu Kokusai Resort in Japan, saw few girls hitting the big side of the jumps exclusively used by the guys. Ashley spent the better part of training struggling with whether or not she should hit the big side of the jumps.”

Added Bill Battersby, “Maiko Hara from Japan started hitting the big side of the second jump. Ashley knew she had to step it up, and crashed hard on her first run of the best of two run finals. She shook it off and kept her mind in the game and not only hit the big side, but threw a huge switch 7 in the process, clinching the top spot on the podium.”

“At elete, we are so proud and honored to be associated with such an accomplished athlete and young woman,” said Val Anderson of elete. “It should come as no surprise that at the age 20, Ashley’s been named as one of the 12 best women skiers. She not only stand outs as one of the top female freeskiers in the world, but she serves as a very positive role model to young girls encouraging them to get involved in sports and not be afraid to take risks and challenges and to follow their heart and dreams.”
