The Global Organization for EPA and DHA (GOED) announces the appointment of Philip C. Fass to succeed Robert Orr as Chairman of GOED for its 2009 fiscal year. Fass brings more than 30 years of experience in the industry, specifically 3 years to the category.
In addition to the new chairman, the GOED membership elected David Shannon (Croda) as Vice Chairman, Jan Haakonsen (Denomega) as Treasurer, and Baldur Hjaltason (EPAX) as Secretary, and Robert Orr remains an officer in the Past Chair position. Other board members include Olav Sandnes (Marine Nutriceuticals), Amanda Ruess (DSM), Harvey Kamil (NBTY), and Maha Misbah (Unilever). This year’s board
includes key consumer food and supplement representation with the inclusion of Unilever and NBTY, the largest food and supplement omega-3 buyers. The addition of these consumer companies highlights the diversity of GOED.

GOED also awarded Robert Orr and Thomas Grys the 2008 GOED Leadership Awards for their hard work and dedication to the organization. Robert and Thomas have served as the Chair and Vice-Chair of GOED since its founding in 2006 helping to establish GOED as a key player in the success of the omega-3 market. “This will be a pivotal year for DHA and EPA worldwide; consumers and governments are recognizing the very strong science for the critical role these Omega 3’s play in supporting heart, cognitive, and visual health throughout people’s lifecycles” says Fass. “GOED will be the authoritative voice of the industry in 2009”.
Fass’ past experience includes intimate involvement in the Omega 3 market for 3 years while at Martek in addition to working within the supplement and functional foods business for over 30 years in business and science capacities. Fass held executive board positions at SANA (Soy Foods Association of North America) and remains an active member of GMA, IFT, and ACOG.
