Lipson named New Hope organic program director

New Hope Natural Media, a division of Penton Media Inc., has hired organics expert and writer Elaine Lipson as director of organic programs.

Lipson, author of The Organic Foods Sourcebook (McGraw-Hill, 2001) and a writer on organics and natural health for several magazines, including Ms., Yoga Journal and New Hope?s Delicious Living, brings to the job years of experience communicating about all aspects of the organics industry.

In her new position, Lipson will educate New Hope staff, reach out to the organic community, provide input on content for New Hope publications and help set and maintain standards for organic exhibitors at the Natural Products Expos.

?It?s really exciting for us to have Elaine on board. She has deep relationships within the organic community and great insight and perspective on all aspects of organics,? said Karen Raterman, vice president for content development for New Hope, which publishes The Natural Foods Merchandiser. Lipson replaces Scott Silverman, who created the position.

Raterman said she looks forward to Lipson helping New Hope stay informed on the latest developments in organics. ?We want to make sure we?re providing the best coverage and support for organic exhibitors at our shows, as well as for retailers who attend the show or read The Natural Foods Merchandiser.?

Before joining the staff, Lipson wrote and consulted for New Hope on a freelance basis. Lipson has written for TheOrganic and Organic Valley?s Rootstock, and she created a comprehensive market report, The U.S. Market for Organic Foods and Beverages 2004, for market research firm Packaged Facts. A frequent panelist and speaker on organic issues, Lipson presented two teleforums this year to professionals from the American Dietetic Association.

?Building community in organics has a lot to do with remembering and keeping alive all the values that built the organic movement, engaging all of the stakeholders involved in food production, manufacturing, retailing and food eating,? Lipson said.
