Maternity wellness company Premama secures $1.4M investment

Premama, the first nationwide line of natural powdered drink mixes specifically formulated to support the nutritional needs of expecting and new moms, today announced it has completed a $1 million Series A round of financing, closing with an additional $400,000 to raise $1.4 million total in capital. The raise was led by early stage investment specialists Cherrystone Angel Group. Funding will continue to support the brand’s significant expansion, which includes product development as well as various marketing and retailer programs.

“This funding is instrumental in accelerating Premama’s growth, which involves a sizeable expansion of product offerings and exciting retail launches,” said Dan Aziz, Premama founder and president. “As a pioneer in women’s maternity wellness, we will put this funding to work and continue to increase our infrastructure, develop new product innovations and expand our retailer relationships.”

Since its inception, Premama has been at the forefront of an emerging niche market for women’s maternity wellness. The response from investors for the Series A further validates Premama as a cornerstone of this developing market.

With the demand for women’s maternity wellness products rapidly increasing, Premama’s offering is timely and on-point,” said Ray Mathieu of Cherrystone. “We are confident this category will continue to evolve, and we are excited to support Premama as it continues to lead the way.”

Financing will continue to fuel assorted fundamental programs such as an aggressive marketing effort led by newly appointed Chief Marketing Officer Jamie Schapiro. An expert in the food and beverage industry, Schapiro has more than two decades of experience driving the development, launch and growth of highly differentiated consumer goods and services such as Jamba Juice, GO Veggie!, Clif Bar, Stirrings and MyPoints.

Funding will also provide continued support for the recent overhaul of the company’s e-commerce site and packaging concepts, as well as major retail launches with CVS stores across the U.S., Amazon and H-E-B grocery stores.

To date, Premama has garnered significant attention from the media for its innovative and solution-oriented approach to women’s maternity wellness, and has appeared in publications including Pregnancy & Newborn, Providence Business News, Vitamin Retailer Magazine, OBG Management Magazine, and Fit Pregnancy. Recently, Premama was the recipient of a “Top Choice” award from Baby Maternity Magazine.
