Boise, Idaho-based Nutri-Vet Animal Health Care Products hired Phoebe Desjardin, a former sales manager for Pet Naturals, as vice president of its pet specialty division.

Vitasoy USA of Ayer, Mass., promoted Walter Riglian to general manager and appointed him to the company's board of directors. Riglian was previously vice president of sales for Vitasoy USA.

Winston-Salem, N.C.-based Primo Water announced several personnel changes. Darren Howanietz, former president and chief financial officer of Pioneer Strategic Sourcing, is the new director of global sourcing. Mike Farra is sales leader for the northeastern U.S., and Jeannie Falls is sales leader for the southeastern U.S. Chris Clemmons is the new sales director for the development of the company's hardware category, and Jonathan Kiger is the new general manager for Primo Water's Carolina region.

Susan Roberts is the new controller for Albert's Organics in Bridgeport, N.J. Roberts was previously controller for Supermarkets of Cherry Hill in Cherry Hill, N.J. Albert's also hired John Smirniotis as general manager of its Denver division. Smirniotis was previously president of Sun Food Stores in Arizona.

Nature's Sources, based in Niles, Ill., promoted Steven Smott to vice president of sales and marketing.

Indianapolis-based Endangered Species Chocolate promoted Bryan Fuller, previously the purchasing manager, to director of procurement. ESC promoted Kelly Brendl to marketing manager. The company also hired Heather Lee as administrative assistant.

Pharmaca Integrative Pharmacy, based in Boulder, Colo., appointed Ian Mukaida to vice president of store development. He was previously Pharmaca's director of logistics and new store planning. Pharmaca also hired Janet Matthews as chief financial officer.

Winnipeg, Manitoba-based Manitoba Harvest Hemp Foods & Oils hired Bill Barker as quality control manager. Barker has spent 25 years in the quality assurance and control field.

Robert Borris, Ph.D., is the new vice president of botanical science and regulatory affairs for the Washington, D.C.-based Council for Responsible Nutrition. Borris previously worked for Merck Research Laboratories, where he headed the phytochemistry program and its two major biodiversity collaborations with INBio and the New York Botanical Garden. CRN also elected Marjorie Fine, executive vice president and general counsel for Shaklee Corp., as chairwoman.

Natural Synergies, a network of independent natural, organic and natural food retailers based in Miami, named Eric Gutmann as president and chief operating officer.

Mill Valley, Calif.-based snack company Corazonas Foods appointed Bob Beckwith vice president of sales and Greg Fry director of operations.

John Wright, previously marketing director for Oakland, Calif.-based Niman Ranch, joined Safeway's Consumer Insights group, which supports the company's brands, including the O Organics line.
