Several members of the United Natural Products Alliance (UNPA) were honored with Nutrition Business Journal (NBJ) Business Achievement Awards, recognizing their distinguished achievements in various business categories within the natural products industry. Awards were presented in a special ceremony at the NBJ Newport Summit held July 23-25, 2008, in Dana Point, Calif.
"All of our member companies share a commitment to the advancement of the global dietary industry, and I am pleased that several were recognized for their strong leadership and company excellence," noted Loren Israelsen, Executive Director of UNPA.
ZMC-USA, a subsidiary of Zhejiang Medicine Company, received a silver medal in Growth in Mid-Size Business category. ZMC-USA achieved significant growth in both product size and market share in 2007 and according to NBJ estimates, had sales of $45 million in 2006, a 100 percent growth over the prior year. The firm is also now the second largest supplier of CoQ10 to the U.S. market.
The Synergy Company was recognized in the Organic Excellence and Sustainability category for quietly become a very successful international business while meticulously minimizing, calculating and mitigating its impact on the planet. The company was founded on the premise that good faith, integrity and environmental responsibility are eminently compatible with good business.
Robert Orr, President and CEO of member company Ocean Nutrition Canada, was awarded a NBJ Charitable Award for establishing a consortium that produces enough Vitamin A for 4.5 million children in Vitamin Angels' Operation 20/20 program. He was recognized for having the integrity, vision and commitment needed to make the world a healthier place.
A.M. Todd Botanical Therapeutics was honored in the Investment in the Future category for transferring production to a carefully selected Chinese manufacturer, decommissioning its Eugene extraction plant, implementing new enterprise management software, launching a market awareness campaign, securing distribution rights in North America for all of Ningbo Green-Health Pharmaceutical products. The company was also recognized for its branded ingredient CinSulin, a popular water- extracted cinnamon product patented for blood glucose management. The vision of management, corporate support, and a strong staff have enabled the rapid growth and expansion of A.M. Todd Botanical Therapeutics and set the stage for future success.
