This week: Applegate introduces sugar-free bacon | New plant protein source hits the market

New from Manuka honey brand Wedderspoon is a line of Organic Manuka Pops, a kid-friendly format for delivering the beneficial properties of Manuka honey. The pops are available in three flavors: raspberry, orange, grape and a variety pack, and boast 100 percent of the RDA of vitamin C for kids ages 4 and up.

Applegate Naturals No Sugar Bacon is suitable for paleo shoppers and will be available at select retailers, such as Fresh Market and Hy-Vee, starting this month, with a suggested retail price of $5.49 per package. In addition to being sugar-free, Applegate Naturals No Sugar Bacon is gluten free, casein free and humanely raised.

Clean Machine launched a new superfood powder called Clean Green Protein made with Lentein, a branded ingredient made from protein-rich and sustainable water lentils. Sourced from certified neutral aqua farms in the U.S. and supplied by Parabel USA, Lentein is minimally processed and yields health-promoting dietary fiber, omega-3 fat, minerals, calcium and magnesium. Combined with Clean Machine's proprietary pea protein blend sourced from PurisPea in the U.S. and ProHydrolase to break down peptides, reduce gas and bloating, and allow the body to absorb more protein, Clean Green Protein takes shakes and smoothies to the next level.  

Bestevia, a stevia leaf sweetener marketed by SweeGen Inc., announced the completion of its Non-GMO Project verification. SweeGen's production process starts with the stevia leaf and uses a patented enzymatic conversion process to achieve high quantities of Reb M.

Ganeden continues to expand into the Canadian market with additional Health Canada approvals. The company said it received a no objection letter from Health Canada confirming that products fortified with GanedenBC30 can make any of the general health claims that are allowed in the country’s probiotic monograph. It also provides opportunities for new gut flora language on packaging for products fortified with GanedenBC30.

Blue Guard Blue Light Defense Formula is the latest one-a-day vision health supplement formulated specifically for millennials with Lutemax 2020 to hit the market. Blue Guard is designed to strengthen the density of the macular pigment, which provides the protective layer in the eyes. It filters out high-energy blue light, stops light waves, and defends against oxidative stress, Quest Products said in an press release. 

Biova LLC, maker of water-soluble egg membrane ingredients, said in an email that it added Amanda Orloske as director of marketing to its management team. Amanda has more than 10 years of experience in marketing and sales in the nutrition industry with ingredient supplier Unigen Inc.
