This week: Nutiva launches organic MCT oil | New flavors of Enjoy Life's baked bars

Lunchskins has created a 100 percent plastic-free, recyclable, home compostable, disposable and sealable paper sandwich bag. Made from unbleached, toxin-free paper, the company says it designed the bags to be an alternative to plastic sandwich bags for food storage at home or on-the-go.

Shaheen Majeed has been promoted to president of Sabinsa Worldwide, with responsibility for manufacturing, marketing, strategies and other operational matters. Shaheen’s first job was in the Sabinsa warehouse when he was just 17 years old, and over the past 23 years he has held a variety of positions representing the company's substantial portfolio of proprietary nutritional and cosmeceutical ingredients.

Nutiva unveiled a new Organic MCT oil—a USDA Certified Organic and Non-GMO Project Verified liquid oil that delivers a concentrated serving of medium-chain triglycerides for clean energy. It's crafted through a patented organic process that gently removes the fats in virgin coconut oil that are solid at room temperature. Nutiva Organic MCT Oil is hexane free and made without any chemicals or filler oils, so there’s no harsh aftertaste. The result is a clean, 93 percent MCT oil with a light coconut flavor. Like all other Nutiva products, new Organic MCT Oil helps support small organic farming communities, by donating one percent of sales to programs that support sustainable agriculture and healthy communities. 

Europharma announced via press release that its Terry Naturally line has launched Slim-VX1 to support healthy weight loss. It contains a European best-selling innovation available for the first time in the United States—a clinically studied, unique fiber that is blended with ginger and a French grape seed extract called VX1 that is standardized to contain only low molecular weight polyphenols for 100 percent absorbability. Both botanicals play a role in healthy metabolism.

Free-from food leader Enjoy Life Foods announced the launch of three new flavors in its line of Baked Chewy Bars: Caramel Blondie, Carrot Cake and Lemon Blueberry Poppy Seed. They feature a proprietary Pure Life Balanced Dry Blend of hulled sunflower kernels, cassava flour, white pearled-grain sorghum flour and quinoa flakes, and are free from the top eight common food allergens.

Two membership-based nonprofit organizations have joined the Organic Trade Association's Farmers Advisory Council: Pennsylvania Certified Organic and Georgia Organics. Together, the two organizations represent nearly 1,200 organic producers and will strengthen the engagement and input of organic producers in OTA's policy work. 

King Bio, an Asheville, North Carolina-based natural pharmaceutical manufacturer, announced via press release the expansion of its U.S. and international sales team to include Jim Rettela and Jeanne Andrewski. Mr. Rettela joins the company as executive vice president of sales and trade marketing. He has 30+ years of sales leadership and management experience in the natural and mainstream CPG  industries with an emphasis on growing brand equity through all class of trade, especially through e-commerce customers. Ms. Andrewski is King Bio’s North American sales manager, who will serve the USA and Canada. She has over 26 years’ experience in the natural products industry where she has been in sales, management and marketing with an acumen for strategic goal setting and team building. 

Advised by ex-NFL star Donovan McNabb and Olympian Julie Ertel, along with execs at Google, Nike and Promax, a new nutrition beverage company called MODe aims to engineer whole-food athletic performance. Its cold-pressed drinks utilize a proprietary blend of fruits, vegetables and natural extracts. MODe currently offers three products: a pre-workout beet and pomegranate booster, a mango and ginger intra-workout shot, and a cucumber, kale and spinach booster to speed recovery. They're sold direct-to-consumer online and through select Rapha Cycle Club cafes.

Spins welcomed Thomas Nielsen as strategic advisor to its growing portfolio of consumer insights, loyalty and personalization offerings to retailers. He brings 25 years of experience and leadership in the fields of technology and operations, spanning business development, engineering, and product management across a wide range of digital media, in-store, and e-commerce retail solutions. 

Beverage brand Carela announced the addition of strategic operational advisory board members. Bill Sipper of Cascadia Managing Brands will be developing this rising brand unparalleled market positioning while Andy Stallone of SAS Sales and Marketing will focus on maturing their sales and distribution. Renée Whitworth of Flood Creative will be instrumental in the brand’s visual and verbal positioning in relation to branding, packaging and design.  

Optimum Nutrition announced the arrival of two new options for a protein-rich breakfast: Greek Yogurt Protein Smoothie and Whey & Oats. Each serving of Greek Yogurt Protein Smoothie—which comes in Strawberry, Blueberry and Vanilla—provides 20 grams of protein with zero added sugar. Whey & Oats shakes—available in Vanilla Almond Pastry, Blueberry Muffin and Chocolate Glazed Donut varieties—contain 27 grams of protein.
