This week: Purely Pinole now Non-GMO Project verified | SkinnyPop expands reach in snack category

The entire line of Native State Foods' Purely Pinole power breakfast cereals is now Non-GMO Project verified. Created by the Aztecs more than 500 years ago for energy and endurance, pinole is made from a rare variety of ancient purple maize (roasted for rich, nutty flavor), chocolatey cacao and hints of cinnamon.

Amplify Snack Brands' SkinnyPop is extending its reach in the snack category with new Popcorn Cakes, Popcorn Mini Cakes and Microwave Popcorn rolling out nationwide this month. SkinnyPop Popcorn Cakes come in Sea Salt, Maple Brown Sugar and White Cheddar flavors and are packaged in individual serving sizes to maintain freshness. SkinnyPop Popcorn Mini Cakes are available in three flavors: Sea Salt, Cinnamon and Sugar, and Sharp Cheddar. SkinnyPop Microwave Popcorn comes in Sea Salt and Butter flavors.

Campbell's brand Bolthouse Farms launched four new organic salad dressings: Avocado Ranch, Signature Blue Cheese, Caesar Vinaigrette and Raspberry Balsamic. They are lower in calories and fat than other varieties and come in 12 oz. square bottles.

Aker BioMarine has awarded a contract to VARD to build a state-of-the-art krill fishing vessel that will fish in the Antarctic. The new 130-meter-long krill vessel will be equipped with the latest and most advanced eco-friendly technology, and its operations will be energy efficient, with a production and processing facility capable of processing raw krill material in the Antarctic. Construction is planned to begin in May this year, and the vessel is expected to complete at the end of 2018.

Following success in the natural and organic breakfast segment, Good Food Made Simple has its sights set on conquering lunch and dinner with a new line of restaurant-inspired organic Entrée Meals made with simple ingredients like whole grains, organic veggies and humanely raised meats. Entrée Meals are available in 12 flavorful varieties: Hatch Chile Mac, Buffalo Style Chicken, Chicken Black Bean, Steak Black Bean, Chicken Pad Thai, Thai Style Chicken, Three Pepper Beef, Chicken Enchiladas Verdes, Turkey Meatball, Lemon Chicken, Lasagna Bolognese and Cavatappi Bolognese. All of the flavors are made with a minimum of 70 percent organic ingredients and have at least 13 grams of protein per serving. 

Jarrow Formulas announced the release of a new collagen formula featuring Fish Collagen Type I Complex. Jarrow Formulas Collagen tablets contain hydrolyzed, lower molecular weight Type I fish collagen peptides, which are a rich source of hydroxyproline, an essential component of hyaluronic acid and collagen, which supports skin elasticity and hydration. Jarrow also announced a line extension for its popular Yum-Yum Dophilus chewable probiotic with a new chocolate flavor and increased probiotic count per serving.

Private-label firm Carmit Candy Industries Ltd. will launch its new vegan line of milk chocolate snacks, coins and buttons at Natural Product Expo West. The new product line is fully dairy-free and gluten-free, addressing leading allergy concerns with sweet indulgence, and comes in two types—white chocolate and standard light brown milk-style chocolate.

Mindbody foods introduced Zen Breakfast Blend for retail and wholesale sales. It's a new, single-serve breakfast smoothie made with nuts, seeds and plant-based proteins, and comes in two flavors, Chocolate Cherry Almond and Chocolate Blueberry Walnut.

GoBHB, an ingredient distributed by Compound Solutions Inc., has been granted GRAS status as a food and beverage ingredient. Compound Solutions will look to broaden the market for goBHB from a dietary supplement in the ketogenic and low-carb world into a multitude of products in the weight management, energy and cognitive function categories.

AlmondPro is launching a peanut butter chocolate flavor of its flagship almond protein powder, and all products are now available for wholesale distribution.

New, ready-to-use organic tahini from Mighty Sesame Co. (part of Rushdi Foods) launched in 26 Whole Foods Market stores in New York. It's USDA Organic tahini in a squeezable bottle, free of sugar, salt and preservatives.
