This week: Skeeter Snacks rebrands | New execs at Reviva Labs, Impossible Foods

All of Lightlife's plant-based products are now Non-GMO Project verified. They have been made without GMO ingredients for years, but the brand recently took the extra step to become independently verified. 

Reviva Labs, maker of natural skin care formulas, hired a chief operating officer to help it navigate its transition to the mainstream market and diversify its sales and marketing channels. Terry French graduated from culinary school, won Extreme Chef in 2012 and has been a successful restaurateur. "It's Terry's business acumen, his understanding of cultures around the world, and his ability to link beauty, health, and food that makes him the perfect ingredient to help Reviva keep growing," CEO Ian Strassler said.

Skeeter Snacks, known for its nut-free products, is now The Safe + Fair Food Company. The company, which will serve as an umbrella company for allergen-friendly brands, recently acquired Mama Jess Organics and has a near-in innovation pipeline that includes a variety of snacks and simple meal solutions to further the mission of making it easy and fun to be safe. Its most recent round of funding saw buy-in from Acre Venture Partners, the venture arm of Campbell.

Global Organics, supplier of sustainable, certified organic and fair trade ingredients, announced that its supply partner for organic cane sugar, Native Green Cane Project in Brazil, has been awarded certification from Fair Trade USA. 

Food industry veteran Chris Gregg has joined Impossible Foods as vice president of supply chain and manufacturing. He has more than 20 years of experience in the food industry, both at startups and at global corporations including Del Monte Foods Inc.

Through the acquisition of Nutraceutix in October 2016, new possibilities have emerged for Probi, including a new range of carefully selected probiotic strains called Probi Select. The range includes Probi Rhamnosus 6594, selected to support gastro and immune health for infants and children; Probi Paracasei 13434, selected to support the immune system; and Probi Plantarum 6595, selected to provide gastro and immune support when needed most. 

Jarrow Formulas announced the release of a larger size for Bone-Up Three-Per-Day, now available in 180 count. The larger size ups the serving size to 60 servings per bottle.

New from Firmenich is a range of sustainable natural vanilla solutions to support customers in mitigating the impact of the Madagascar cyclone and the current record-high vanilla prices. Firmenich diversified its sources of origin to include Uganda, Indonesia and India.

Kettle Cuisine announced the addition of Mike Illum as executive vice president of sales and Jeremy Kacuba as chief operating officer. Following the 2016 acquisitions of Del Monaco Foods and Chef Creations, and capacity expansions in both its Lynn, Massachusetts, and Morgan Hill, California, facilities, the addition of Mike and Jeremy will help drive Kettle Cuisine's coast-to-coast growth strategy.

Longvida Optimized Curcumin passed rigorous testing for banned substances for professional athletes. The batch tested below detection limits for a screen of over 200 compounds. This batch-specific certification, Certified for Sports by Korva Labs, is announced and available to customers for purchase moving forward.

Thrive Algae Oil by TerraVia won the Best New Product Award from BrandSpark International. Determined by the votes and opinions of consumers who purchased the product, Thrive Algae Oil received the 2017 Best New Product Award in the food and beverage category as the top choice for cooking oil.  

ProbioKid, a probiotic product of Lallemand Health Solutions, has been generally recognized as safe for use in infants, toddlers and young children by both the U.S. and Canada. Canadian authorities had already approved specific heath claim such as, “Helps to reinforce the body’s natural defenses in children” for infants over 6 months but have now extended those claims for infants over 3 months based on new complementary safety studies.

Algatech Ltd. announced its 100 percent organic Haematococcus pluvialis microalgae powder and astaxanthin oleoresin as part of its AstaPure line. Algatech was granted National Organic Program certification from the USDA Agricultural Marketing Service.

Indena and Hyris have signed a strategic cooperation agreement for the development of methods dedicated to the genomic identification of botanical species, based on unique sets of reagents for specific DNA sequences and the use of bCUBE miniaturized, portable technology, a state-of-the-art device for the analysis of nucleic acids. Indena will also acquire a minority shareholding position in Hyris Ltd. and will hold preferential access to this technology in the botanical derivatives industry.
