Wendy Burrell Mintzer, president of The Burrell Group, a public relations firm specializing in food communications, died July 10 from brochietasis, a chronic lung disorder. She was 60 years old.
Mrs. Burrell Mintzer was a graduate of Wellesley College and had a career in food communications for more than 35 years. She began her career as an advertising copywriter and then became a contributing writer for publications such as Epicure, which she helped launch, and The Saturday Evening Post.
Eventually, Mrs. Burrell Mintzer moved into public relations, joining the firm of Creamer Dickson Basford, where she was responsible for helping to create a roster of food clients such as Hershey's Cocoa, Borden and Ocean Spray. She also worked for Young & Rubicam and Zachary & Front before forming The Burrell Group in 1985 with her associate and friend Ronnie Campbell. Over the years, The Burrell Group managed many food accounts, concentrating its efforts in the specialty gourmet category.
A memorial service was held Friday, July 20, at Riverside Memorial Chapel in New York. Mrs. Burrell Mintzer was a proud supporting member of Les Dames D'Escoffier, and a scholarship fund has been created in her honor.
