Cargill to Conduct “Driving Heart Health With Consumers” Presentation at Health Ingredients Europe 2006

MINNEAPOLIS – David Henstrom, general manager, Europe, Middle East and Africa of Cargill Health & Food Technologies, will present “Driving Heart Health With Consumers” at the Health Ingredients Europe exhibition at Messe Frankfurt in Frankfurt, Germany on Nov. 15.

At 12:15 p.m. in the Exhibitor Showcase area on the main exhibition floor, Henstrom will discuss new, innovative, heart-healthy products and ingredients that food and beverage manufacturers can incorporate into future product launches or reformulations of existing products.

“Cargill’s proprietary marketing research indicates that the majority of consumers in selected European markets think seriously about their health and the nutritional value of what they eat,” said Henstrom. “Good-tasting, efficacious functional foods are experiencing a greater acceptance by mainstream consumers than ever before. This presentation enables us to connect with food and beverage formulators to help them develop the heart-healthy products consumers are seeking.”

In addition to the presentation, Cargill will exhibit a variety of heart health promoting ingredient brands at the Nov. 14-16 exhibition. Cargill will be located in stand number D10 in Hall 3. Featured brands include CoroWise™ Naturally Sourced Cholesterol Reducer™ plant sterols, Prolisse™ soy protein isolate and Barliv™ barley beta-glucan.

CoroWise™ plant sterols have been clinically shown to lower cholesterol; products containing them are eligible for a U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) health claim* and are approved for use in the EU in a variety of foods. CoroWise™ plant sterols can be added to foods and beverages without increasing calories or affecting flavor or texture, making it easy for people to add plant sterols into their daily diets and help reduce “bad” LDL cholesterol levels.

Prolisse™ naturally sourced soy protein isolate is a great tasting soy protein product resulting from an innovative, proprietary water based filtration processing system. Applications for this versatile ingredient continue to grow as Cargill collaborates with food and beverage manufacturers to innovate and identify new opportunities for using Prolisse™ soy protein isolate to boost the nutritional and functional properties of more foods. Packed with protein and low in fat, Prolisse™ soy protein isolate can be applied in nutrition bars, beverages, baked goods, processed meat and poultry, meat alternatives and more.

Barliv™ barley beta-glucan (barley betafiber) is a high purity (70 percent) reduced molecular weight beta-glucan soluble fiber. Clinical trials show that it has cholesterol-lowering properties similar to oats, when consumed as part of a low saturated fat, low cholesterol diet.

*Foods containing at least 0.4 grams per serving of plant sterols, consumed twice a day with meals for a daily total intake of at least 0.8 grams, as part of a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol, may reduce the risk of heart disease.
