Can industry meet exploding demand for non-GMO?

Suppliers say they’re ready, as more non-GMO ingredients become available

Judging by the growth of the non-GMO market over the past two years, this segment has built up to a tsunami-sized tipping point. Sales of Non-GMO Project verified products top $8 billion per year, and there are now more than 24,000 verified products from 2,500 brands. According to a report by the Natural Marketing Institute, the number of non-GMO food products increased from 551 to 1,350 between 2012 and 2013, a growth rate of 145 percent.
