Calcium Products Up to Snuff

White Plains, N.Y.—By and large, calcium supplements contain the claimed amount of calcium and are within the safety zone for lead levels, according to the independent lab and testing company consumerlab.com, located here.

The firm assayed 35 brands of calcium-containing products. Of those, only four did not pass, all because of low calcium levels ranging from 53 percent to 91 percent of label claim.

Significantly, none of the products came close to contamination levels of lead and other metals. The standard safety limit is 7.5 mcg lead per calcium gram; all products tested contained less than 1 mcg.
