Patents Granted for Novel Formulas

Winston-Salem, N.C.—Two dietary supplements makers were granted U.S. patents for their unique formulas. Pilot Therapeutics, based here, has developed a bioactive lipid technology that delivers the anti-inflammatory benefits of gamma linolenic acid (GLA) without adverse effects. The plant-based fatty acid is mixed with a delta-5 desaturase inhibitor, which is supposed to improve GLA's anti-inflammatory profile while negating its potential cardiovascular adverse effects.

Tishcon Corp., based in Westbury, N.Y., received a patent on its production of a supplement containing coenzyme Q-10 and L-carnitine to benefit heart health and energy levels, according to Tishcon President Raj Chopra.
