Siberian Ginseng's New Name

All Siberian ginseng (Eleutherococcus senticosus) dietary supplements must now carry the Herbs of Commerce (1992) standardized common name "Eleuthero" on product labels instead of Siberian ginseng, according to the Federal Trade Commission.

The American Herbal Products Association has issued an alert to member companies that botanical ingredients in dietary supplements must be identified by their standardized common names. Those companies not in compliance are subject to Food and Drug Administration regulatory action as it pertains to product labeling, advertising, and unfair trade practices.
