Homeopathy & Chemotherapy

The chemotherapy patient faces many challenges—spiritual, emotional, financial and physical. Homeopathic remedies offer two benefits: the possibility of improving symptoms associated with the side effects of chemotherapy and rapid restoration of blood chemistry.

Cadmium sulph. (cadmium sulphate) counters side effects such as low vitality, exhaustion, extreme prostration and persistent vomiting.1 This remedy also helps stabilize the patient and lays the groundwork for more rejuvenating remedies.2

Chinchona (Peruvian bark) raises the energy level of anyone suffering from blood loss or poor blood quality. Until chemotherapeutic drugs are perfected, patients routinely experience destruction of healthy blood cells as well as cancer cells. Chinchona helps improve vitality even before blood chemistry is restored.1

Nux vomica (poison nut) has long been used as an antidote to drugs of all kinds, both prescription and illicit. It should be considered when appetite, digestion or bowel function is affected by any kind of drug treatment, including chemotherapy.1

Ipecac (ipecac root) has a reputation for relieving the most violent nausea and vomiting, regardless of the cause. It helps restore appetite.1

X ray is made with a vial containing alcohol exposed to X rays. It has a strong affinity for the blood and stimulates cellular metabolism.2 French physician O.A. Julian, in Materia Medica of New Homeopathic Remedies (Beaconsfield Publishers, 1990), says that patients on chemotherapy, immunosuppressor therapy, ionizing radiation and cobalt radiation treatments benefit from X ray because it restores blood platelets and leukocytes. It is also useful for anorexia, nausea and general debility.3

Calc. phos. (calcium phosphate) is a tissue salt vital to proper nutrition. Found in the saliva and gastric juice, it assists convalescence, speeds the recovery process and replenishes the body's strength.4

Calc. sulph. (calcium sulphate) is a tissue salt found in the liver that helps purify the blood. It helps remove impurities, which benefits the patient as a whole.4

Ferrum phos. (phosphate of iron) is a tissue salt that is important as an oxygen carrier. Iron (ferrum) attracts oxygen, which is vital for energy and endurance. It infuses energy into blood cells.4

—Richard Hahnemann

Richard Hahnemann, no relation to homeopathy's founding father Samuel Hahnemann, is a homeopathic researcher in Arizona.
