Selenium Mimics Insulin

Researchers have discovered that selenium is an insulin-like trace mineral that transports glucose into tissue for conversion into energy. The mechanisms by which selenium mimics insulin are not fully understood, but research indicates that the body has redundant systems to regulate metabolic processes. Researchers discovered that persons with diabetes benefit from supplemental and dietary selenium.1

Bill Sardi, a health journalist in Diamond Bar, Calif., is the author of The Iron Time Bomb (Bill Sardi, 1999).
