AHP Sets Standard of Excellence

The American Herbal Pharmacopoeia (AHP), a nonprofit educational foundation in Santa Cruz, Calif., is working to provide necessary information for the safe and effective use of botanical medicines. This is achieved through developing authoritative, analytical and comprehensive therapeutic monographs and by establishing industrywide manufacturers' quality-control standards.

Officially endorsed by the American Herbal Products Association (AHPA) as a compendial standard for botanicals, AHP monographs are peer-reviewed by an international panel of experts versed in scientific and traditional data on herbs, including complete safety profiles and dosage information. AHP plans to publish 300 monographs, averaging 20 to 30 pages each, on the most widely used Ayurvedic, Chinese and Western botanicals in the U.S. market.
