Krill is the fastest growing marine omega-3 source today. However, a knowledge gap exists regarding this highly sought after fatty acid alternative. As the omega-3 marketplace continues to expand, education is crucial in helping retailers properly stock store shelves to meet consumer demand. To that end, Aker BioMarine, an integrated biotechnology company dedicated to the sustainable harvest of krill and development of krill-derived biotech products, has launched a unique pilot program titled "How to Speak Krill." There are in fact many ways to "speak krill," particularly when it comes to health benefits, sustainability and purity.
Already on a successful trajectory, the "How to Speak Krill" program provides retailers with the proper tools to help their customers make informed decisions when choosing an omega-3 option. Chris Speed, MND, CEO at OmegaWellness and omega-3 expert, will continue his national tour at Expo West on March 8th to lead a discussion on krill for retailers, buyers and others in the natural products space (event details below).
"Krill sales are growing in double-digits, but many retailers and consumers are still unaware of the varied reasons why it is an ideal omega-3 choice," said Speed. "'How to Speak Krill' was designed to fill this void with information that is impactful and substantiated. We are excited to continue on this journey, and Expo West is the perfect platform to help further expand this conversation."
During ExpoWest, Speed will discuss:
- Krill's phospholipid advantage: Superba Krill is rich in phospholipids, which carry omega-3s throughout the body, helping to keep the heart, brain and joints healthy.
- Clean, fresh and stable—naturally: SuperbaKrill is a clean source of marine omega-3 EPA and DHA, and the presence of astaxanthin helps keep these fatty acids naturally fresh and stable.
- Aker produces the ONLY MSC-certified krill brand: Superba is the ONLY krill brand certified by the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) as being sustainable and 100 percent traceable from sea to shelf.
As part of the educational effort, Aker BioMarine is also unveiling a new infographic featuring the highlights of the "How to Speak Krill" retailer program. The three main areas of emphasis include Proven Benefits, Sustainability/Traceability and Purity. "An important as aspect of 'How to Speak Krill' is simplifying complicated messages and communicating them in as many ways as possible," said Becky Wright, communications and marketing manager. "Our new infographic reflects that mission."
