When the Lundbergs moved west during the Dust Bowl in search of something better, they created a company that helped build an industry.

Now this is a family business. Grant Lundberg's grandfather, father and uncles planted the seeds of legendary organic grain business Lundberg Family Farms back in the 1930s, during the Dust Bowl, when they moved from Nebraska to California. Having experienced firsthand the direct impacts of poor soil management, they took an approach to farming that focused on caring for the earth. When they realized they were really onto something special, they built a rice mill and created the brand.

The Lundbergs helped pave the trail for organic and have served as an example of how environmental stewardship can be the beating heart of a for-profit business. The 51 members of the family who currently own the business were recognized at the Hall of Legends ceremony at Natural Products Expo West 2018. Watch Grant tell the story of how Lundberg Family Farms came to be—and its first trip to Natural Products Expo—in the video above.
