Long-time health industry veteran to lead continued success and growth as CEO of science-based nutritional supplement company.

Doctor’s Best, developer and distributor of science-based nutrition products, announced the appointments of Gale K. Bensussen as chief executive officer and Erin O’Malia Gehan as chief marketing officer.

As a long-time health industry veteran, Bensussen will continue to build on his solid reputation for growing successful businesses and brands. Bensussen was previously a founding partner and president of Leiner Health Products, one of the world’s largest manufacturers of nutritional supplements.

Building on the core foundation and assets of Doctor’s Best, Bensussen will drive additional growth through investments in innovation and a dedication to quality and science-based nutrition. Bensussen will also drive initiatives that uphold the company’s firm commitment to its growing network of select retail and branded ingredient partners.

“I am honored to take on this leadership role with a company that is so highly respected in the industry, trusted by consumers and poised for growth,” said Bensussen. “I look forward to driving continued success as we work to expand market opportunities, strengthen partnerships, and build on our respected brand reputation.”

His depth of industry knowledge has also led Bensussen to contribute to the boards of Leiner Health Products, Avalon Natural Products and Healthnotes, as well as trade organizations including the Consumer Health Products Association and the Council for Responsible Nutrition. He is also a sought-after speaker and frequently presents on important health topics.

A graduate of the University of Southern California Marshall School of Business, Bensussen served as a Trustee for the University from 2004 to 2009. As past chairman and longtime member of the USC School of Pharmacy Board of Councilors, Bensussen has been instrumental in establishing several laboratories at the school, along with a new research floor to conduct clinical and translational studies focused on natural therapeutics for hormone replacement therapy. Bensussen received the School’s Honorary Alumnus Award in 1999.

Erin O’Malia Gehan, an accomplished marketing leader, brings with her proven experience in brand strategy, new product development and integrated communication. In her role as CMO for Doctor’s Best, Gehan will lead overall marketing strategy and drive continued growth.

“The nutritional supplement industry is experiencing tremendous growth both in its sophistication, and its reach into new segments and applications,” said Gale Bensussen, CEO of Doctor’s Best. “With her depth of market knowledge, industry connections, and expertise in consumer packaged goods, Erin is the ideal individual to lead our marketing initiatives.”

Previously, Gehan has successfully led marketing efforts at a number of consumer packaged goods companies, including Herbalife, Bayer Healthcare and Abbott Laboratories. She most recently served as vice president of marketing at Pharmavite.

In addition to delivering quality products that are backed by science, Doctor’s Best provides world-class retailer support and education programs. Gehan will be responsible for upholding the company’s commitment to its growing network of select retail partners. Gehan will help drive programs to further educate and empower natural product and supplement retailers as they strive to meet the specific health support and maintenance requirements of consumers.
