Protein continues its upward trajectory, based on consumer demand for the only macronutrient to have never taken a health hit. The non-animal protein segment, in particular, is eating into whey protein’s market share, especially among those who don’t sweat in a gym for hours every day.

The mega-trends driving growth for the plant protein segment, according to Chris Shanahan at Frost & Sullivan, include emerging markets, health & wellness, willing to pay for quality, being green, and food safety.
