Global gelatin and collagen firm Nitta Gelatin is to invest $17.8M in a collagen peptide focused expansion to its existing gelatin manufacturing facility in Fayetteville, NC. The company held a groundbreaking ceremony on November 1 for the 16,000-square-foot expansion and construction is expected to start within in the next several months. They expect to open the facility in the spring of 2014.

Nitta Gelatin is the largest supplier of collagen peptides to the Japanese market, currently the largest such market in the world. The company has helped pioneer the market for collagen peptides in Japan over the last several decades and hopes to expand the market in North America. The new plant expansion will be supported by a sales office and state-of-the-art applications lab located in Morrisville, N.C.

Nitta Gelatin also recently launched a new brand of collagen peptides, Wellnex™. This product line encompasses a wide variety of functionalities including support for skin, bone and joint health.
