In the weight loss sector, direct-to-consumer marketing performed well, paying off in particular for publicly traded NutriSystem Inc., which grew 2005 revenues by 460% to $212 million. The company said it expected 2006 revenues to rise almost 100%. NutriSystem delivers prepared meals based on low glycemic index foods directly to customers’ homes. Although most sales are placed on the Internet or by phone, 7% of NutriSystems’ revenue was from the QVC shopping channel in 2005.
