9th Annual Socially Responsible Business Awards Winners Announced

Washington DC – The winners have been chosen for 9th Annual Socially Responsible Business Awards, which will be presented during Natural Products Expo East, Washington Convention Center, West Registration Area in Washington DC on Saturday September 6, 8:30 – 10:00 AM. In addition to the four companies who will receive the award for 2003, two special awards are being bestowed.

2003 SRBA winners are: Dr. Hauschka Skin Care, Inc., Hatfield, MA; Earth Friendly Products, Winnetka, IL; EcoTeas, Ashland, OR and Zhena’s Gypsy Tea, Ojai, CA. All four winners are companies with exceptional track records in ethics, accountability, governance, employment practices, business relationships, financial return, products and services, community involvement and environmental protection.

Special recognition awards will be given to Alfredo Sfeir-Younis, Special Advisor to the Managing Director of the World Bank, and vegetarian activist and author Howard Lyman, President and founder of Voice for a Viable Future and former cattle rancher who was Oprah Winfrey’s co-defendant in the Texas Cattlemen trial .

The keynote speaker will be Bená Burda, President and Founder of Maggie’s Organics/Clean Clothes Inc. The event master of ceremonies is Gurudhan Khalsa. Award presenters include Paul Bennett, President, NNFA; Chris O’Brien, Managing Director, Co-op America Business Network; Suzanne Shelton, President, The Shelton Group PR; and Gary Tomchuk, CEO, Ethical Marketplace.

2003 Judges: James Nixon, Chair of Sustainable Systems, Inc. and CEO/Chair of Progressive Trade Securities, Inc.; Chris O’Brien, Managing Director of the Co-op America Business Network; Gwynne Rogers, Strategic Marketing Analyst at the Natural Marketing Institute; Morris Shriftman, CEO of Mozart, Inc. and Joe Smillie, Vice President of Quality Assurance International.
