A host of world-leading academics will front a distinguished line-up of industry professionals set-to present at this year’s Vitafoods Conference. More academics than ever before will lead workshops and present research findings at the show in Geneva on May 18-20, 2010. A selection of new topics including Diabetes, Personalised Nutrition, Reproductive Health and Diet and Immunity have also been added to the programme, highlighting their growing prominence on the industry agenda.
Kicking off the brand new stream on Diabetes, Dr. Jay Udani from UCLA School of Medicine will look at Evidence Based Food and Dietary Ingredients for the Prevention and Treatment of Diabetes. Dr. Marion Priebe from University Medical Center Groningen will follow up with Whole Grain Foods and the Prevention of Type-Two Diabetes, whilst Dr Edith Feskens from the University of Wageningen, will conclude the session with a look at Whether Dietary Modifications Can Help Prevent Diabetes.
Focussing on Personalised Nutrition, Professor John Hesketh from the Institute for Cell & Molecular Biosciences who will delve into the topic of Micronutrient Genomics: Is There a Future for Personalised Nutrition? He will be followed by Dr Susan Wopereis from TNO who will examine the Application of Nutrigenomics in Nutrition Research.
Dr. Simon Wheeler from King’s College London will start the session on Reproductive Health by examining The Potential Roles for Micronutrient Supplementation during Pregnancy in Developed Countries. Professor Margaret Rayman from the University of Surrey will then go on to discuss The Importance of Selenium to Male and Female Reproduction.
In the hotly anticipated Diet and Immunity strand, Professor Philip Calder from the University of Southampton will look at Fatty Acids and Inflammatory Processes. Professor Simon Carding from the University of East Anglia will review Commensal Gut Bacteria: A Cause of and a Solution to IBD. Dr Stephanie Seifert from Max Rubner-Institute Karlsruhe and Dr Francisco Perez-Cano from the Universitat de Barcelona will conclude by looking at The Immunomodulatory Effects of Prebiotic and Antioxidants & Immune Function: Facts and Mechanisms respectively.
Victoria Emerton, Knowledge Services Manager at Leatherhead Food Research, who is organising the conference, commented: “The balance of this year’s event line-up has changed quite dramatically. In addition to the new streams, a number of sessions will also be returning to the conference programme this year. The Market for Functional Foods, Gut Heath, Mental Performance, Weight Management and Heart Health will be joined by an interactive workshop on Nutrition & Health Claims Regulations.
