With a new Canadian patent, Advantra Z® is now the only patented Citrus aurantium extract in North America
WAYNE, N.J., June 22, 2004 – Nutratech, Inc. – a research-based nutraceutical ingredient supplier – has announced that the Canadian Intellectual Property Office has issued a patent to Zhishin LLC for Advantra Z®, making it the only patented Citrus aurantium extract for weight loss and physical performance in the North American market today. While Zhishin LLC holds both the U.S. and Canadian patents, Nutratech is the exclusive worldwide licensee for Advantra Z®. The U.S. patents (6,224,873; 6,316,499; 6,340,481; 6,340,482) relate to the use of Citrus aurantium, bitter orange or citrus extracts for, but not limited to:
• stimulating thermogenesis
• reducing weight loss
• increasing lean muscle mass to total body mass
• improving athletic performance and
• suppressing appetite
In addition to these U.S. patents, the Canadian Intellectual Property Office granted Patent No. 2,248,854 for the regulation of appetite, body weight and athletic function with materials derived from citrus varieties. Other U.S., Canadian and international patents are pending.
Most of the research on Citrus aurantium has been conducted using Advantra Z®, which utilizes optimal harvesting techniques and a proprietary extraction process to produce a truly unique synergistic amine composition. This complete composition of five synergistic adrenergic amines: synephrine, n-methyltyramine, hordenine, octopamine and tyramine is responsible for delivering the applications protected by the aforementioned series of patents and the positive results found in the research.
“By purchasing Advantra Z® in the U.S. and now in Canada, our North American customers can tout the applications supported in the patents, subject to their attorney’s comments and/or approval, on their label and marketing support material,” states Bob Green, one of the principals of Nutratech. “This gives Nutratech’s customers a one-up advantage over their competition who may be purchasing the generic Citrus aurantium and, therefore, cannot legally make these claims. As the exclusive worldwide licensee for Advantra Z®, Nutratech is vigorously pursuing a licensing program, with companies who want to use the claims supported by these patents, to protect its customer’s competitive advantage in the marketplace,” adds Mr. Green.
In addition to Advantra Z®’s extensive patent protection in North America, it also offers an excellent efficacy profile. In the wake of controversy on the popular herb, ma huang (ephedra), in the U.S. and Canadian markets, Advantra Z® has emerged as a thermogenic alternative, working as effectively as the former when used properly without the potentially negative central nervous system and cardiovascular side effects.
