Ajinomoto to expand production of amino acids in Shanghai

Ajinomoto Co., Inc. is responding to growth in demand for amino acids for pharmaceuticals and foods by expanding production facilities at Shanghai Ajinomoto Amino Acid Co., Ltd.

Ajinomoto Co., Inc. (Ajinomoto), the world's leading amino acid manufacturer, is responding to growth in demand for amino acids for pharmaceuticals and foods by expanding production facilities at Shanghai Ajinomoto Amino Acid Co., Ltd. (Shanghai, China).

Ajinomoto will invest RMB 100 million (about JPY 1.3 billion) to approximately double annual production capacity to 2,500 tons. Completion is scheduled for October 2014.

Global demand for amino acids for pharmaceuticals and foods has been increasing steadily, and this trend is expected to continue. The expansion of production facilities in Shanghai will enhance Ajinomoto's ability to supply amino acids for pharmaceuticals and foods.
