Alacer Corp donates Emergen-C to Nourish America's relief effort

Alacer Corp has donated 40,000 packets of Emergen-C, a powdered vitamin drink, a valuable item in a disaster situation directly to Birmingham, Alabama, Nourish America's first relief site, where a deadly tornado took over 300 lives and generated up to $5 billion in damage.

Natural disasters in America are destroying property and lives at record levels this year. In April, following the powerful tornados that hit the Southeastern United States, Nourish America teamed up with the National Foundation for Women Legislators (NFWL) and launched its disaster relief program for 2011 to bring nutrition and essential supplies to victims and first responders in several devastated areas.

Soon after, companies stepped forward with generous donations of nutritional products. Alacer Corp was one of the first, pledging over 92,000 packets of Emergen-C, a powdered vitamin drink, a valuable item in a disaster situation. Alacer Corp sent 40,000 packets directly to Birmingham, Alabama, Nourish America's first relief site, where a deadly tornado took over 300 lives and generated up to $5 billion in damage. The natural disaster left the surrounding landscapes looking reminiscent of Hollywood disaster films. One woman said a reporter, "See where that van is up in the tree? That's next to where my house used to be."

State Senator Linda Coleman of Pratt City, AL offered her appreciation for Alacer's donation saying, "On behalf of the entire state of Alabama, we can't thank you enough for your generosity. It means so much to know that there are fellow Americans who care."

Alacer Corp sent the remaining 52,000 packets of their pledge to Nourish America's disaster relief site in St. Louis, MO where a tornado left homes looking like damaged doll-houses. Roofs, side walls and furniture were blown away leaving bare skeletal walls of homes and apartment buildings.

"We are humbled by the wrath of mother nature and the generous contributions of Alacer Corp to help those affected by these terrifying storms," said Andrew Jackson, President of Nourish America.

Due to the 200+ mile an hour tornado that tore through Joplin, MO on May 23rd, Nourish America expanded its disaster relief to include Joplin. The community of Joplin is still reeling from the violent destruction from the tornado. As many were without insurance, hundreds of families have lost everything. The need there for nutritional support and other supplies is great.

Today, because of the historic flooding of the Missouri River, Nourish America has added Hamburg, IA to its disaster relief effort. In Hamburg, a critical levee was breached in the early afternoon. Citizens are working hard to save the historic town, raising the levels of other protective levees while also preparing for the worst. At this time, one third of the population is displaced.

"Our employees thank Nourish America for distributing essential nutrition and supplies as part of the ongoing relief efforts in Alabama, Missouri, and Iowa," said Ron Fugate, President and CEO of Alacer Corp. "We welcome any opportunity to support these courageous people during this time of need."
