Lacey, WA – September 8, 2005 – Aloecorp, the world’s leading vertically integrated supplier of bioactive Aloe vera raw materials, has announced the grand opening of its Lyford, Texas facility on September 12. Though carrying out Aloe production in Lyford since 1988, the grand opening celebration signifies a $2.6 million property and facilities renovation, which includes the completion of the company’s new cutting-edge manufacturing facility, as well as the completion of a beautification and landscaping project at the company’s historic Hilltop Gardens.
This land is pending designation as an historical site by the state of Texas and is believed to have housed the first-ever Aloe plantation in the United States. Dignitaries and visitors from around the world will be on hand for the festivities. The grand opening celebration is timed to coincide with the annual International Aloe Science Council (IASC) 24th Annual Scientific Seminar taking place September 9-10 on South Padre Island.
Festivities for invited guests will officially begin at 10:00 a.m. with the introduction of key Aloecorp executives, including company founder B. William Lee, as well as international and local dignitaries, such as Congressman Rubén Hinojosa of the 15th District of Texas. This will be followed by a dedication and ribbon-cutting ceremony, a site and facility tour, lunch, and entertainment provided by a group of Mexican folk dancers.
Aloecorp initially purchased the 100-acre Hilltop Gardens in 1988, residence of the late Mrs. Lee Ewald, whose original house has since been refurbished and remains close to its original state. Hilltop Gardens will also include a corporate retreat and conference center being built in the near future on what is now a total of 518 acres of land.
“We are extremely excited to carry on the continuing vision of Aloecorp founder B. William Lee to facilitate the health of humankind through the use of botanicals,” said Jerry Pilgrim, Vice President of Hilltop Gardens. “Of note is our unique 15-acre garden showcasing 30,000 plants, which will naturally include Aloe vera plants, and an additional garden highlighting the many different species of Aloe and other medicinal plants cultivated throughout the world.”
Pilgrim indicated that Aloecorp will provide tours of Hilltop Gardens to its sister companies (Unigen Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and Oasis LifeSciences) and their affiliates, as well as to local and international visitors. He also noted that the Hilltop Gardens beautification project includes the addition of a lush garden retreat featuring winding walkways, fountains, and a wide variety of plants, flowers and trees, along with 250 towering palm trees. The company also plans to build a store sometime in the future featuring products produced by its customers and sister companies.
Aloecorp is also celebrating the completion of its new 18,500 square-foot manufacturing facility, designed to meet increasingly stringent cGMP’s (current good manufacturing practices) being put in place by the nutritional supplement industry. The new facility features sanitary walls, ceilings, floors and lighting, and includes a high-rise warehouse—improving the company’s ability to properly store its raw materials and finished products. It also provides significant improvements in space and compliance with cGLP’s (current good laboratory practices), and comprises first-class Quality Assurance and Quality Control Laboratories that include separate chemical and microbiology testing laboratories. Aloecorp’s Texas administrative offices are also located in this facility.
According to Evan Moilan, Aloecorp’s Vice President of Operations for the Texas and Mexico facilities, “Aloecorp has always strived to be the industry leader in producing the highest quality Aloe vera on the market. Our new cutting-edge manufacturing facility will help us continue to meet—and exceed—current standards, and will allow us to remain the pacesetter in the Aloe industry.”
