BOSTON (November 17, 2003) – Talk show host Frankie Boyer, locally heard on WROL 950-AM, WSRO 650-AM and WBIX-1060-AM, was recently honored by the American Heart Association (AHA) for her excellence in communications about heart disease and stroke. Boyer’s “Heart Healthy Wednesdays” segment, which airs weekly as part of Boyer’s nationally syndicated “The Frankie Boyer Show,” received the award of Best Radio Series in the AHA’s 4th Annual Media Awards competition. This is the second time that the AHA has honored Boyer for her outstanding work educating the public about Heart Disease and Stroke.

Entries for The AHA’s 4th Annual Media Awards competition were received from top media outlets throughout the 6-state region of the Northeast Affiliate (MA, NH, VT, ME, RI, NY) and were judged by an expert panel of medical and media judges. Entries were judged for accuracy, effectiveness, and creativity.

Boyer’s “Heart Healthy Wednesdays” segment airs weekly on the “The Frankie Boyer Show.” Heart disease hits close to home for Boyer, who has lost close family members to the disease. She created the segment as part of her ongoing personnel commitment to fight the disease that took their lives. The segment aims to educate, motivate and empower listeners to become active participants in the fight against heart disease. Boyer provides her national audience with a full range of information from leading experts in cardiac care, nutrition, research and development. In addition, Boyer reports on real life challenges as told by heart patients and their families.

In addition to her dedication to fighting heart disease, Boyer continues to delve into critical health challenges facing our nation, including the nationwide epidemic of childhood obesity. Boyer recently integrated a new childhood obesity segment called “Small Changes,” which is aimed at educating, comforting and ultimately making a difference in the lives of affected children and their parents.

Boyer’s award winning healthcare show, which was syndicated to a national audience recently, can now be heard locally on WROL 950-AM and WSRO 650-AM, Monday through Friday, 2 – 4 p.m. and on WBIX 1060-AM on Sundays 10-11:30 a.m.
