Puyallup, WA, October 13, 2005 - AIBMR Life Sciences, Inc., a full-service natural and medicinal products research institute, has announced the appointment of Anna K. Gawlicka, Ph.D., to the position of senior research scientist. Dr. Gawlicka will head up nutraceutical research, preclinical and clinical trials management and toxicology studies.

Dr. Gawlicka has extensive background in animal digestive physiology and nutrition, epidemiology and nutritional product formulation. Her recent research interest has been on bioactive compounds of plants, disease prevention, digestive physiology, structure and function of the digestive system and ontogenetic, dietary and phylogenetic effects on activity and gene expression of digestive enzymes. She is an adjunct research faculty member in the Department of Biological Science, California State University at Fullerton, where she previously conducted research under a National Science Foundation (NSF) grant. Previously, she was a visiting fellow at the Institute for Marine Biosciences, National Research Council, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, a visiting scientist at the La Selva Biological Station in Costa Rica, a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Animal Science at the University of California at Davis and postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture at Malaspina University, Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada. Dr. Gawlicka earned her Ph.D. in nutrition at Laval University, Quebec City, Canada. She also holds a DEA (Diplome d'Edutes Approfondies) degree in oceanography from Bordeaux University, France, and a M.S. degree in marine fisheries from the Agriculture Academy in Szczecin, Poland. Dr. Gawlicka has eight years experience in the field of gene expression research as it relates to food/nutrient/phytochemical intake.
