ARTINIA shown to suppress fat deposition, improve glucose tolerance in study

A study recently published on-line in the Journal of Nutritional Biochemistry stated that ARTINIA promotes the growth of beneficial bacteria (Roseburia) along with suppressing weight gain, fat deposition and improving glucose tolerance.

ARTINIA(TM), a novel chitin- glucan fiber ingredient from Stratum Nutrition, was the subject of a study recently published on-line (March 15, 2011) in the Journal of Nutritional Biochemistry, which examined the ability for ARTINIA, as chitin-glucan, to alter the composition of gut microbiota associated with the development of obesity. This study provides direct evidence that in high-fat, diet-induced obese mice, ARTINIA promotes the growth of beneficial bacteria (Roseburia) along with suppressing weight gain, fat deposition and improving glucose tolerance. The title of the paper is: Dietary modulation of clostridial cluster XIVa gut bacteria (Roseburia spp.) by chitinglucan fiber improves host metabolic alterations induced by high-fat diet in mice. The lead author was Professor Audrey M. Neyrinck, Metabolism and Nutrition Research Group, Ghent University (Ghent, Belgium).

"In addition to ARTINIA's positive effects on heart health, specifically its ability to reduce levels of oxidized LDL, we now see evidence that ARTINIA offers significant benefits for weight management in a widely used animal model of diet-induced obesity," noted Joseph L. Evans, Ph.D., Manager, Pharmacology, Stratum Nutrition. "We will continue to evaluate ARTINIA's potential for use in weight management and glucose control in future research."

Excerpted from Study Abstract:

Šour findings support the view that chronic consumption of CG

(ARTINIA) has potential beneficial effects with respect to the development of obesity and associated metabolic diabetes and hepatic steatosis, through a mechanism related to the restoration of the composition and/or the activity of gut bacteriaŠ

About ARTINIA

ARTINIA is a high-purity, natural, chitin-glucan fiber featuring the benefits of both soluble and insoluble fibers. Studies demonstrate ARTINIA provides substantial benefits for arterial and overall heart health, including a reduction in oxidized-LDL. ARTINA supports healthy arteries and the body's natural antioxidant systems.

Additionally, ARTINIA has achieved self-affirmed GRAS status, and is approved by the EU Commission as a novel food ingredient. The vegetarian, gluten-free fiber can be used in variety of food, beverage and supplement applications.
