Australia adopts risk management approach to therapeutic goods

The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) adopts a risk management approach to regulating therapeutic goods.

The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA), as part of the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing, is responsible for administering the Therapeutic Goods Act 1989 which provides a national framework for the regulation of therapeutic goods in Australia, including assurance of quality, safety, efficacy and timely availability. In general, any product associated with therapeutic claims must be included in the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods before it can be supplied in Australia. The TGA adopts a risk management approach to regulating therapeutic goods. The TGA's approach can be read in detail by clicking here
