Avon to launch 650 products in India this year

Avon is aggressively strengthening its product portfolio in India with plans to launch about 650 new products this year.


New Delhi Beauty and cosmetics company Avon said it is aggressively strengthening its product portfolio in India with plans to launch about 650 new products this year, besides intensifying marketing initiatives in the country.

As a part of its promotional strategy, the direct selling company is also looking to rope in celebrities for product endorsement and roll out television commercials in line with its competitors like Amway, by next year.

"Last year, we launched around 450 products. This year, we will launch 650 across all the categories taking the total number of products sold in India to 1,000," Avon India Managing Director Hemant Singh said.

The company, which is celebrating 125th year of its existence globally, is also ramping up its brand building initiatives to strengthen presence across the country.

"We are definitely looking forward to a whole lot of marketing activities this year...by next year, we might have a celebrity brand ambassador and also planning for television commercials," Singh said.

Globally, Avon has celebrity brand ambassadors, including Hollywood actress Reese Witherspoon.

The company, which primarily sells skincare, fragrances and color cosmetics, said it is also pushing its jewellery range in the market this year.

"Jewellery contributes about 15 per cent to our revenue at present. Till now we have been selling global jewellery range here, but it is for the first time we are launching a modern Indian collection," he said.

Avon has been present in India for the last 15 years.

The company claims its business in India is currently growing by 65 per cent this year.

It also has a manufacturing facility in India.

To celebrate of 125th year, the company said its global Chairman and CEO Andrea Jung will be visiting India next year for the 16-city 'Avon Believe World Tour'.
