Bühler updates London fruit and vegetable test facility

The facility showcases Bühler’s market-leading SORTEX optical sorter equipment.

Bühler has updated its fruit and vegetable test facility for European customers to run “immediate” frozen and fresh product processing trials.

Located adjacent to London City Airport, the facility is accessible for day trips from most European cities. Customers will be able to travel to the facility, review their product on trial and travel home – all on the same day.

The facility showcases Bühler’s market-leading SORTEX optical sorter equipment. It features a SORTEX E1D for frozen fruit and vegetables and SORTEX K2P machine for fresh products. The facility also incorporates the demonstration of Bühler’s pioneering enhanced InGaAs cameras, high resolution bichromatic cameras and PROfile (shape) technology, along with its SMARTeject and updated interface controls.

The test facility contains a temperature controlled area - to enable product trials in conditions similar to those in fresh and frozen processing plants. Product processing equipment is situated in a temperature controlled room which can be taken down to between 2°c & 10°c (35°f & 50°f). Adjacent to this is a cold store where frozen product can be stored at between -10°c & -15°c (14°f & 5°f).

Melvyn Penna, Applications Manager for Bühler’s SORTEX division says: “This is an exciting development for fruit and vegetable processors. To date the European test facility has not been sufficient – whereby now, frozen or fresh fruit or vegetables can be trialled in near identical conditions to customers own processing plants. Added to this, the centre is within a day’s travelling distance from most European cities - to offer customers an ‘immediate’ service.”

The frozen and fresh fruit and vegetable demo facility is located at Bühler’s SORTEX manufacturing facility in London, at its Gallions Reach site. The demo area also incorporates extensive trial facilities for its full range of optical sorters servicing commodities from rice to grain and nuts to plastic. Customers visiting the site will also be able to see the outstanding state-of-the-art production facilities where Bühler’s SORTEX ranges of machines are manufactured. In addition to London, Bühler can also run product trials for the SORTEX range within sorting demonstration facilities in China, Brazil, India and USA.

Bühler’s SORTEX optical sorters offer the highest standards of quality and cleanliness for produce. Configured with enhanced InGaAs cameras, high resolution bichromatic cameras and PROfile (shape) technology, Bühler’s SORTEX optical sorters outperform other technologies on the market - in terms of foreign body detection and running costs.
