BENEO: Connecting Nutrition and Health with Market-Ready Concepts at IFT

BENEO Inc., one of the leading manufacturers of functional food ingredients, is moving proactively to deliver formulations to manufacturers who are keeping pace with today's ever-increasing consumer demand for products with multiple formulation, technological, health and nutritional benefits.

According to Joe O'Neill, Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing for BENEO Inc., "Consumers expect better health and greater value in the foods they eat. We hear this time and time again from manufacturers. BENEO ingredients are a viable, value-added way we can help our customers create food products that are interesting, great tasting, healthy and on trend."

At IFT Annual Meeting & Food Expo 2010, BENEO Inc. BOOTH #6447, the newly established North American subsidiary of BENEO/alt: formerly conducting business as BENEO-Orafti, BENEO-Palatinit and BENEO-Remy, is featuring four new product concepts with functional food ingredients from chicory root, sugar beet and rice. These include e.g.:

  • Fiber-enriched granola clusters which make a delicious breakfast cereal or a tasty nutritious snack, made with Orafti® L90 oligofructose fiber syrup;
  • Gluten-free' cookies - delicious, celiac-safe, fiber-enriched baked goods made with Remyflo whole grain brown rice flour and Orafti® L90 oligofructose. Perfect for the whole family - with zero high fructose corn syrup;
  • Fruit-blend energy beverage fortified with 100% natural sources of energy. Recharge the body and mind with a sustained boost. This advanced formula features PalatinoseT (isomaltulose), a carbohydrate found naturally in honey and sugar cane. Scientifically shown to promote longer-lasting energy, PalatinoseT metabolizes more slowly than sucrose and maltose - typical ingredients in other energy drinks - promoting a steady stream of fuel over a longer period of time.
  • 'FUN-ction' - a creamy non-dairy beverage in two exciting flavors, piña colada and mango/passion fruit, featuring BENEOs Functional rice concentrate, Nutriz.

Solutions Platforms' provide another key reason to visit booth #6447

BENEO's so-called Solutions Platforms are a direct response to the industry's need for tailored information and support regarding formulation, nutrition and regulatory issues. They focus on the technical, nutritional and health benefits of the overall ingredient portfolio of BENEO for applications including dairy, confectionery, bakery and cereal, baby food and beverages, among others. BENEO ingredients offer opportunities for products that are tooth-friendly, gluten-free, fiber enriched, fat and sugar reduced, easily digested, energy sustaining and calorie smart, as well as supportive of fat oxidation - all without compromising taste, texture or mouthfeel.

"BENEO continues to lead the industries it serves in terms of supporting customers throughout the entire product development process," O'Neill said. "From new product ideas using up-to-the-minute consumer insights and focused market research, to specific advice on government legislation and regulation, our Solution Platforms see product concepts through to final formulation and marketing the world over."
