Cactus Botanics has announced the launch of a variety of grades of brown seaweed (Laminaria japonica) for the dietary supplement industry.
Laminaria japonica contains high levels of fucoidan, a unique phytochemical that have been shown to have several actions for health support. Several studies suggest it can provide support for a healthy thyroid, fatigue and menstruation. A 2007 in vitro study revealed that fucoidan exerted anti-inflammatory effects, thereby making it a compelling addition in heart support formulas and many others.
"For centuries throughout Asia, people have been consuming seaweed as part of many delicious, healthy dishes," says general manager Carol Cheow. “There are many types of seaweed, which primarily has a distinctive, intensely nutritional composition—and the processing of which makes for outstanding supplementation, notably for many Americans whose palate doesn't include oceanic vegetation."
Cactus Botanics provides its clientele with two distinctive derivatives of brown seaweed for a host of creative dietary supplement formulas:
· Brown Seaweed Powder Extract (20:1 to 75:1, with more than 50% polysaccharides). With 50% minimum alginates, this version is suitable for cosmeceutical formulations.
· Brown Seaweed-derived Fucoidan 85% (pharmaceutical - and food-grade applications).
· Fucoidan 20% and 35%.
In addition, Cactus Botanics' brown seaweed alginates are frequently used in the food, chemical and pharmaceutical industries as a stabilizing, thickening or emulsifying re-agent.
