Cactus Botanics Introduces Peak X-Free 5-HTP

In response to the surge for natural solutions to alleviate stress, anxiety and depression, Cactus Botanics has launched its 5-hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP) that is tested by a reputable U.S. third-party lab to be free of Peak X and uncontaminated.

Cactus Botanics’ 5-HTP is 100 percent nature extracted from Griffonia simplicifolia and is recognized by the human body, which produces it on its own from the amino acid tryptophan (consumed in some popular foods such as turkey), and is a precursor to the neurotransmitter serotonin and the hormone melatonin. When taken as a supplement, 5-HTP may increase serotonin levels and therefore may elevate a healthier mood.

“The ‘Peak X-free’ factor is imperative as a safety measure for manufacturers and ultimately, consumers,” says Carol Cheow, General Manager of Cactus Botanics. “Peak X was reported in 1998 to be associated with the supplement tryptophan, which is made into 5-HTP in the body. And this compound may lead to Eosinophilia-Myalgia Syndrome (EMS) and related disorders. Our 5-HTP is delivered directly to the third-party laboratory to ensure the material is completely free of Peak X, and therefore, will instill full confidence in naturally extracted 5-HTP for consumption.”
